Powering a New Standard in Cryogenic Healthcare
CryoFuture is building a national network of next-generation biorepository and cryostorage facilities. Their platform supports the storage, tracking, and transport of highly sensitive biological materials — including those used in fertility treatment — across multiple clinics and facilities. Their work requires strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical governance standards, demanding precise handling of billing, documentation, and real-time logistics.
The Challenge
From Vision to Infrastructure
CryoFuture approached Preux with a high-stakes challenge: to architect, build, and operate the core software infrastructure that would underpin their entire business. At the time, CryoFuture had no internal technical team, no CTO, and no digital systems in place. They needed a reliable partner to:
- Define and scope their MVP
- Assemble a compliant, delivery-ready software team
- Build a system capable of growing into a national, regulated platform
- Handle HIPAA-sensitive patient data, specimen tracking, billing, document consent, and clinical transport
The platform had to meet real clinical needs from day one — and scale gracefully as the business matured.
Our Approach
Structured Like a Digital Department
Preux proposed and delivered a fully embedded team to function as CryoFuture’s in-house digital department. Our team included software engineers, UX specialists, QAs, delivery managers, and compliance-aware advisors. All personnel were selected for their ability to work in regulated, high-trust environments.
Phased Development: From MVP to Scale
- MVP Phase: Delivered a foundational platform with inventory tracking, patient onboarding, billing cycles, and consent document workflows. Early HIPAA-conscious design, audit trails, and role-based interfaces were implemented.
- Growth Phase: Introduced clinic-level billing configuration, cross-facility logistics, automated pick list enforcement for specimen movement, and fine-grained user roles.
- Scale Phase: Evolved into a multi-facility, multi-role platform operating across the US, supporting transportation logistics, dynamic role control, billing automation, and compliant lifecycle tracking of cryogenic specimens.

The Preux model enabled team composition to shift fluidly over time — phasing in design capacity, compliance expertise, and advisory input as new modules were scoped — without disrupting delivery.
What We Built
A Platform for Clinical Precision and National Scale
The CryoFuture platform is now an operational hub that manages:
- 🦢 Inventory Management: Hierarchical tracking from facility > tank > cane > specimen. Includes full lifecycle logging (e.g. contaminated, discarded, in-treatment) and precise location mapping.
- 📅 Patient Onboarding & Consent: Digital document signing, storage plan selection, payment setup, emergency contact, and audit-tracked communications.
- 💳 Billing & Revenue Sharing: Automated billing cycles, individual patient billing histories, clinic-specific pricing logic, revenue split configuration, and alerts for payment failures or card expiry.
- 🚊 Transportation Module: Clinic-to-clinic and facility-to-clinic transfer management, with pickup/drop-off flows, shipment lifecycle status, and courier coordination.
- 📄 Pick List Enforcement: System-generated pick lists to ensure all physical specimen movement is pre-logged, traceable, and compliant with clinic protocol.
- 🔑 Role-Based Access: Over 10 discrete user types, including Lab Manager, Patient Manager, Billing Admin, Network Admin, and CryoFuture Admin. Each with specific capabilities and permission boundaries.

The platform is now the backbone of CryoFuture’s daily operations:
- Operating across multiple clinical and storage locations nationwide
- Trusted by leading fertility clinics for sensitive patient and specimen handling
- Supporting HIPAA-aligned data workflows, inventory logistics, and multi-tiered billing
- Continually maintained, evolved, and scaled by Preux as CryoFuture’s embedded digital partner
CryoFuture has since raised over $30 million in funding and continues to expand — backed by a platform designed and delivered by Preux for real-world scale.
