About the Client
Al Arabiya is a leading Middle Eastern news network broadcasting in Arabic, English, and Farsi. With millions of daily viewers and readers, the organisation is a critical voice in global news and editorial content.
The Challenge
Al Arabiya’s digital properties were fragmented, outdated, and not reflective of their stature. They needed a complete rebuild across all public-facing platforms, incorporating modern UX, high-performance technology, and a brand identity worthy of their influence.
IBM selected Preux to lead this transformation.
Our Approach
Strategic Discovery & Cross-Cultural Leadership
Preux was brought in to run the entire redesign and build. We placed a UX Director and Creative Director on the project and managed a team of designers, developers, and strategists across multiple time zones and languages.
We led discovery and strategy sessions, mapped user types across cultures, and worked closely with Al Arabiya and IBM stakeholders to align priorities.
Brand Identity & Design System
We developed an entirely new brand identity including:
-
Logo and logomark
-
Typography system
-
Colour palette and motion language
-
Iconography and pattern libraries
We built a design system capable of supporting dozens of layouts, editorial use cases, and cultural adaptations across Arabic, English, and Farsi.
Experience & Engineering
Preux defined the content architecture and UX patterns for:
-
Breaking news
-
Live video
-
Journalist profiles
-
Crisis coverage
-
Related content and personalisation
Our engineering team delivered the front-end using React and Redux, and integrated with REST APIs, Redis, and Firebase. For iOS, we supported Swift-based development. All components followed MVVM architecture and were tested via interactive prototypes.
We implemented CI/CD pipelines and code review practices, reducing release times by 40% and bug rates by 35%.
Team
To execute on Al Arabiya’s ambitious scope, Preux constructed a senior team from the outset. A UX Director and Creative Director were embedded to lead all experience, design, and brand activities.
They guided:
-
UX/UI designers producing responsive interfaces across mobile and desktop
-
Design system development and prototyping
-
Multilingual brand adaptation (Arabic, English, Farsi)
Working alongside Al Arabiya’s internal developers, product owners, QA, and content teams, we:
-
Ran sprints, retros, and roadmap planning
-
Led visual QA across platform deliverables
-
Supported technical alignment with internal development teams
This team model reflects Preux’s ability to lead, embed, and integrate into large-scale international projects where cultural sensitivity, technical clarity, and team orchestration are critical.
Results
The collaboration delivered transformative results:
-
+1.75M monthly pageviews
-
+200% desktop CTR, +54% mobile CTR
-
20% performance improvement
-
75% increase in user retention
-
10% reduction in operational costs
Reflection
Preux wasn’t just a design agency — we were a strategic partner. From branding and UX strategy to development collaboration and stakeholder facilitation, we shaped how one of the Arab world’s most recognisable news brands delivers digital journalism at scale.
